Retired Pedernales Electric Cooperative board president R.B. Felps filed a lawsuit against the electric cooperative in December after the current board voted to discontinue the Medicare supplemental insurance program, paid for by the cooperative, that covered the former director. On January 24, 2012, Kelley Russell Mauldin, 41, was arrested on three counts of forgery. Forgery is a third degree felony, however, Mauldin’s charges were enhanced one degree because the alleged victim is 65 or older, in accordance with Texas Penal Code Sec. 32.21.e-1. Burnet County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Peggy Simon issued the warrants for Mauldin, following an investigation by the Horseshoe Bay Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.

Award-winning fine art humorist Jeff Leedy will be painting on site at Quail Point, in the poker room, for the next two months. POA President Steve Jordan identified Leedy, having become familiar with his unique style, as the right person to paint a mural for the facility’s newly remodeled card room.

The mailing of renewal voter registration certificates has been delayed throughout the State of Texas due to ongoing litigation regarding state redistricting plans. The renewal certificates, printed on yellow paper, will be mailed to all registered voters once the state redistricting plans are finalized by the Federal Courts. Voters can expect to receive their new certificate before the 2012 Primary Elections.

Jean Johnson (R) had a memorable birthday when friends Marilyn Surmrall (L) and Lois Strasburg treated her to dinner at a restaurant in Bee Cave where Willie Nelson happened to be dining. He graciously had his photo taken with the ladies. “It almost made the Texas men’s basketball loss to Kansas bearable,” said Johnson.

Aurora Davalos celebrated her 100th birthday with a brunch hosted by her son, Rudy Davalos, and daughter-in-law, Gail Davalos, at the Horseshoe Bay Marriott on Sunday, January 29. Family and friends attended the party for Aurora, who moved to Horseshoe Bay with her husband Rudy in 1975. Both were avid golfers.

Members, new members and guests of the Horseshoe Bay Seton Associates met at the Church of Horseshoe Bay on Monday January 30th for their Winter General Meeting. The program included a great lunch served by “Tea Licious of Burnet”. The meeting began when Geneva Dalton, opened the meeting with a welcome to all.

On Tuesday, golfing buddies and friends celebrated with Lois Sparks (R) on her 90th birthday. She spent the morning golfing and on the 18th hole of Slick she outdrove all in her group landing at the top of the hill. Yea! Life is good!
