Letters to the Editor

August 12, 2010

Dear Editor: I just wanted to thank you and complement you on one of your writers. Maris Lynne Long came out to our distillery two weeks ago and spent most of the day asking questions and taking notes. She was completely professional and always cognizant of the fact that we were trying to get some work done, even as we were interviewed.

Dear Editor: I will make this short. We all need to save electric power. Here are some simple steps that can be done, cheaply and easy: 1. I turn on my water heater each morning for only 10 minutes. This is enough for a warm bath and a shave. The heater stays off the rest of the day.

To the Editor: Consideration of better facilities for our fine Horseshoe Bay police is a great idea. The costs, as reported by the Beacon, don’t sound so great. I’m happy to hear further explanation, but a few things reported in the Beacon article seem out of place: ·The cost appears far too high.

Dear Editor: Immoral and Unethical These words are interpreted as: Not conforming to a standard of right behavior. When our government rewards companies, to take their factories overseas, no one can say this is right behavior. When profit becomes more important than people, it is hard to see this as right behavior. Numerous jobs have been phased out and sent overseas leaving thousands of American citizens in dire straights.

How often do we as residents of Horseshoe Bay stop and think how fortunate we are to be living in a city that has such a well trained and efficient EMS…..probably not unless we need to call them as I did this morning. I fell and could not get up, needing help, Ken called EMS at 7:00 am…….within 5 minutes they were at our home.

I am concerned about the proposed solution to the low water crossing on Bay West Boulevard. As I understand it, apparently a two arch precast concrete system is proposed with a cost of $600,000 +/-. There are less costly and less intrusive systems employing precast concrete members readily available. One such system was developed for secondary roads such as Bay West Boulevard.

FREEDOM – What a great privilege. It is inspiring to be a part of the 4th of July Celebration in Horseshoe Bay. Thanks to the POA volunteers who always give their time and energy so that we can enjoy the land and boat parades and the all –American activities at Quail Point.

Isn’t it amazing? I was part of that faceless crowd screaming that I wanted the government to get out of my life. I wanted to slow down the increasing government’s size. I wanted less government and more FREEDOM in my life. Oops! Remember Hurricane Katrina that hit in Mississippi? Oh, dear.

As I read the articles in the Horseshoe Bay Spring Visitors Guide I was reassured to learn of the preservation efforts of Mausoleum Pasture and the commitment to preserve the Mausoleum Trail and Mausoleum in its natural state. In 1990 my late husband was the first land salesman to join the land sale team led by Macon Dunham.

Do you remember the whole disgusting saga about Pete Rose being kept out of the Hall of Fame because he BET AGAINST his own team? He was severely punished and his entire career, which he had spent so much time and effort, went down the drain. Yet, we have Wall Street’s Goldman Sachs who took mortgages, bundled them together, and sold them as derivatives.
