Pedernales Electric Cooperative members overwhelmingly approved a member bill of rights and elected Chris Perry and Ross Fischer as directors in results announced at the cooperative’s annual membership meeting Saturday, June 19, in Johnson City. Perry, a Dripping Springs resident, will fill the expiring District 4 position of O.C. Harmon, and Fischer, of Kendalia, will fill R.B.

The first-ever Adult Soap Box Derby was held in Marble Falls over Father’s Day weekend June 18, 19 & 20. The Mike’s Bikes entry, sponsored by the Horseshoe Bay Business Alliance, won first place in the distance event, third place in the downhill slalom event, and an award for the best engineered car.

Getting shipshape for the boat parade are Grand Marshall Pete Baker and captain of the ship Police Chief Bill Lane. The HSB police boat will lead the 10:30 a.m. flotilla of boats, barges and stowaways from Jonathan Cove to the lake shore of the Quail Point Lodge where food, fun and festivities will be underway. Two couples who live on The Hills Road have agreed to dismiss their appeal of a trial court’s ruling against them in exchange for a $30,000 lump sum payment from the City of Horseshoe Bay’s insurance carrier. These 32 future actors and actresses wrapped up the annual Hill Country Community Theater summer camp Friday night with a rollicking performance of their own creation. In the first week of camp they were each asked to create a character. HCCT’s Exective Director Jim McDermott wrote a play around these imaginative characters, which ranged from aliens and two-headed giants to super models.

According to Forbes.com, America’s money is moving to five areas in the Sun Belt, including Llano County. Based on IRS data from 2008 analyzed by Forbes, folks who move into Llano County are richer than folks who move out of the county. Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent of $292.6 million in sales tax allocations to Texas cities on June 11, down 1.5 percent compared to the allocations in June 2009. Calendar year-to-date, city sales tax allocations were down 4 percent compared to the same period last year. June’s sales tax allocations represent sales that occurred in April. This is the first allocation that includes the new tax rate of 1.75 percent for Horseshoe Bay, which went into effect on April 1, 2010.

On Saturday, June 19, the Horseshoe Bay Police Department received a report of a family violence assault. The victim reported she had been attacked by her live-in boyfriend, James W. Murray, Jr., a 27 year old Spicewood resident. The victim reported that they had been out with friends and after dropping their friends off, an argument began between them.

Law enforcement personnel continue to search for Keith Howell, the 56 year old man from Arlington who is believed to have drowned in Lake Buchanan on Saturday afternoon. According to a spokesperson for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Howell was boating with his adult nephew and the nephew’s children on the east side of the lake about a mile west of Thunderbird Resort.

LCRA Transmission Services Corporation has put on hold further development of an 85-mile transmission line in the Texas Hill Country awaiting further guidance from the state on whether the project still is needed. A plethora of good sportsmanship and competition were evident in the 2010 Golf on the Rocks Tournament, with too many exciting moments and scorecard playoffs to fully cover.
