He was fired from one of the most prestigious jobs in sports 14 months ago—he’s ready to go back to work. Billy Gillispie was in Horseshoe Bay, June 2, to address the recently-formed Sports Club. Gillispie, from 2002 to 2009, was the head basketball coach at UTEP, Texas A&M, and Kentucky.
“This past year I watched a lot of practices of NBA and college teams,” Gillispie told the Beacon, “and I attended high school games.

On May 27, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Craig A. Gargotta granted the Emergency Motion for Stay Pending Appeal filed by LBJ Lakefront, Inc. (the “debtor”). Alert Horseshoe Bay Resort security staff spotted a young man acting suspiciously in the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel shortly after midnight on Wednesday, May 26. The man was looking into vehicles in the parking lot and removed a tool box from the bed of a pick up truck at a private residence adjacent to the hotel.
The security guards called HSB police, but as they approached the suspect before the police arrived, the suspect fled on foot.

Five of ten statewide Democratic candidates made appearances at Robinson Park in Llano, at the “Hill Country Blowout” organized in large part by Bob and Lynda Gammage of Llano. Pedernales Electric Cooperative is hosting a member forum June 8 at 6 p.m. at PEC’s headquarters building in Johnson City. The forum will give members a chance to hear proposals and weigh in on proposed changes to the cooperative’s community giving policies and programs, including the creation of a member advisory group to recommend how PEC’s Board of Directors distributes funds to area nonprofit organizations.

Balloting in the Pedernales Electric Cooperative election for directors continues. As of May 31, 2,922 online ballots and 13,616 mail in ballots had been cast, for a total of 16,538 ballots. PEC members may vote online or by mail through June 11, or they can vote in person at the PEC Annual Membership Meeting June 19.
In addition to voting for two directors, members will be asked to vote on four proposed amendments to the PEC Articles of Incorporation.

We had an unusually long and unusually cold winter, but I am here to publicly announce that summer has come to Horseshoe Bay — with a vengeance. It’s hot! But with the heat come two of my favorite things to do: water ski and shower outdoors. Both of these activities were nurtured in my childhood by a couple of fellows who would laugh to see this middle age woman still doing both.
