A passer-by saw the smoke coming from the eves of a vacant home at 120 Tee Off on the third hold of Slick Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay Saturday night around 7:50 p.m. and contacted neighbors who called 911.
HSB fire units arrived on the scene and called for mutual aid assistance from Marble Falls Fire Department and Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department.
HSB Fire Chief Jim Fiero explained the events as they unfolded.

Students in the 5th and 8th grades in the Llano Independent School District posted impressive scores on the Preliminary TAKS Reading and Math tests taken in early April.
Ninety-five percent of 8th grade students passed the math test this year compared to 88 percent passing in 2008. Ninety-nine percent of Llano Elementary 5th graders passed the math test this year compared to 89 percent in 2008.

Llano Memorial Healthcare System conducted an internal survey to determine how much “non-valued” wait time patients experience when visiting LMHS clinics. The Horseshoe Bay Women’s Golf Association held it annual Charity Tournament on Slick Rock Golf Course on April 21, 2010. For the first time, the tournament was open to not only WGA members but also to area non-members in an effort to maximize participation and proceeds for the benefiting charity, the Open Door Recovery House in Marble Falls.
An impressive 87 players, playing a net/gross individual format participated.

The Women of the Word of the Church at Horseshoe Bay are sponsoring their 5th annual Diaper Drive beginning May 2 and ending on May 16. Play pens will be set up in the Church Narthex and Library, and a Baby Buggy will be located in the church office to receive donated items.
Large size diapers (4,5 and 6), baby wipes and formula are especially needed.

I attended a small rural high school, but in my opinion, I received a very well rounded education.
