The Horseshoe Bay City Council took action Tuesday to begin the bid process for construction of a bridge over the creek on Bay West Boulevard.
The council has weighed many safety issues relating to the city’s roadways during multiple workshops over the past year, including how to make the low water crossings safer.

Southeast Llano County residents can still pay their county taxes and obtain vehicle registration stickers conveniently at the Llano County annex on Ferguson Road, across from the 7-11 store in Horseshoe Bay. But due to a recent decision by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), residents will no longer be able to obtain new license plates at the HSB annex.
License plates that are seven years old are required to be replaced.

Two Cottonwood Shores residents running for city council have filed challenges with the city to investigate whether two other candidates may be seated should they win the election. On Wednesday morning, City Secretary Cynthia Schwertner said the city was still awaiting advice from its city attorney regarding the challenges before taking any action.

54 golfers journeyed south to the River Crossing Golf Club on a cool, overcast morning last Monday, the 19th of April. The HCMGA’s second 2010 event was sponsored by American Bank of Texas, N.A and Kent Lesley Real Estate of HSB and Marcon Construction of Austin. The winning team of Roy Clements, Bob Speetzen, Mike Campbell and David Binford squeaked out a one shot victory with a 203.

Although a subcontractor providing earthwork services on the construction of Summit Rock, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course Skywater Over Horseshoe Bay, chose to discontinue working on the project as of Friday, April 16, all work on the construction of Summit Rock is progressing as planned according to Thad Rutherford, project manager.

Yesterday’s council meeting began as Reverend Johnny prayed and we pledged. Two more years and I just might have the Pledge of Allegiance to Texas mastered.
The meeting then proceeded with a recognition of Jay Bauman, one of Chief Lane’s crack detectives, for his 10 years of service.

I had the honor, and I mean honor, of seeing one of the greatest living fiddle players perform at the Uptown Marble Theater. Johnny Gimble has been playing fiddle for 75 years. Now 83, he is still performing with his granddaughter’s band, the Marshall Ford band, and recently cut a new album with other legends Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.

Eighteen local residents enjoyed an afternoon at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg followed by an evening at the Nimitz “Old Texas Roundup” Barbecue. The group toured the expanded George H. W. Bush Gallery of the Museum that opened last December in festivities culminating with the ribbon cutting by the President and Barbara Bush.

Billilee “Bee” Ragan Carr passed away on April 18, 2010 at her residence in Lubbock with loving family present.
Private interment with family and friends will be at Resthaven Cemetery on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at the First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

James B. “J. B.” Ellis, 70, of Horseshoe Bay, TX, died April 17, 2010 at Seton Hospital in Burnet, TX. He was born and raised in Topeka, KS, by the late Gene E. and Ramona Ellis.
After graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1962, he began his service with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
