Time’s running out to get right with the law. The Horseshoe Bay Municipal Court and Horseshoe Bay Police Department are participating in a multi-jurisdictional warrant roundup that begins on Saturday, March 6 and continues for several weeks.
Law enforcement agencies from over 200 jurisdictions across Texas will combine forces in what is believed to be the largest joint effort of this type.

Voter turn out was been slow during the first week of early voting in the Republican and Democratic primaries in Llano County, according to Candy Kokernot, Llano County Elections Administrator.
A total of 897 (approximately 6%) of the county’s 13,936 voters went to the polls between the first day of early voting on Feb.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors unanimously voted on Monday, Feb. 22 to place a member bill of rights on the 2010 ballot, giving PEC’s 196,000 members the power to ratify the document at the cooperative’s annual meeting on June 19 in Johnson City. If ratified, the bill of rights would establish core rights, such as election safeguards, which could only be changed with a member vote.

Friday evening, Feb. 19, Ken and Jean Anderson hosted a reception in their home for Congressman Mike Conaway who represents the 11th Congressional District which consists of 36 counties in Central and West Texas. Conaway and his wife, Suzanne, were warmly welcomed by 73 Horseshoe Bay area residents. In another life long ago, long before cell phones were common and instant communication the norm, my former mother-in-law and I had been on a shopping trip in Houston and had stopped at Hyden’s in Conroe for a beer and some oysters on the way home. Since we were coming home later than expected, Miss Scarlett, the aforementioned mother-in-law, felt the need to call her 80 year-old mother, Mammo, and let her know that we would be in a little late.

The cold windy days of the past few months have inspired me to take Daytrippin’ inside. Writing Daytrippin’s museum series has opened my eyes to a number of unique and fascinating museums in our area, and the list keeps growing. Last week I revisited one of my favorites, Austin’s Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, and I hope it will become one of yours too.

Medicare enrollment is automatic for some of us. In fact, anyone who has received a Social Security check or 24 months worth of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B.1 Part A is hospital insurance; Part B is medical insurance.
If you’re getting Social Security checks and approaching age 65, you’ll get a Medicare card in the mail three months before your 65th birthday.

Leo N. Shaver, Jr., 85, of Horseshoe Bay died February 23, 2010. Born December 25, 1924 in Salisbury, NC, Leo was the son of Leo & Pearl (Stroupe) Shaver.
Leo graduated from high school in Rockwell, NC in 1941, attended Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC and graduated from Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, DC in 1948.
