Around the Bay

Erecting the new limestone walls bordering the entry to Skywater Over Horseshoe Bay is just a tiny indication of the construction activity underway within the 1,600 acre development. Giant earth movers, front end loaders and rock crushers perform an orchestrated ballet over the rolling terrain that only a visionary can fully appreciate at this stage of completion.

On Tuesday, January 19, 2010, one hundred and fifty soldiers were welcomed home by family and friends of the 2-8 Cav 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas. Among the many anxiously awaiting was Stacy Dailey, wife of SPC Jack Dailey, Jr., her mother Marsha Prekup and step father Rick Prekup of Horseshoe Bay, Texas and friend Nicole Abel of Ft.

The February 14 International Club program will be a highly personalized portrait of Tibet, digitally captured and painted by the unique artistic and photographic eye of Rama Tiru. Tiru spent 25 days in Tibet traveling by automobile to accomplish this collection of images covering Eastern Tibet to the Western Borders which includes an excellent collection of all the major monasteries of Tibet and the holiest mountain Mount Kailash.

A generous community helped Highland Lakes SPCA exceed the $5,000 matching funds challenge issued by Roger and Geneva Dalton of Horseshoe Bay. The first day the article was printed in our local newspapers, a call came in from a fellow saying he read the article and if the Daltons could be so generous he thought he could match the entire amount.

On Monday, a Travis County judge dismissed a $1.23 billion lawsuit filed against the Lower Colorado River Authority by the City of San Antonio. District Judge Stephen Yelenosky ruled in favor of LCRA and against the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), agreeing with LCRA’s position that it is protected from the suit by sovereign immunity rules. At the Jan. 28 meeting of the Llano County Hospital Authority Board of Directors, the board re-elected the same members to serve as officers of the healthcare system for 2010, including Mike Jenkins (President), Jodi Babcock (Vice President), Dr. Jack Franklin (Secretary) and Trudy Kelley (Treasurer). The Cottonwood Shores Public Library is hosting a Valentine’s Day Party and Crafts Day on Saturday, February 13 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Kids of all ages are encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities. A child safety program designed to teach child abuse prevention techniques is being hosted by the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center, Llano Elementary and Packsaddle Elementary Schools this spring for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students. The Yello Dyno program uses music and movement to teach children skills to help them avoid adults who might harm them.

The locally famous American Bald Eagle pair arrived back in their winter home in early October, and now have two eaglets who are nearly nine weeks old.
