Around the Bay

The Hill Country has been on a weather roller coaster. From a summer sizzling through an extended heat wave to a winter freezing with record breaking single digit temperatures. On Friday, some Pedernales Electric Cooperative customers in Horseshoe Bay West experienced power outages due to the above average demand for electricity, primarily related to heating needs during the frigid weather.

Texas cities’ sales tax receipts for November 2009 sales were down 11.4 percent compared to November 2008 according to the monthly report issued Friday by Texas Comptroller Susan Combs. The $15,999 in November 2009 sales tax receipts reported by businesses located in the City of Horseshoe Bay represents a stunning 64% decrease over the $44,913 in tax receipts for sales made in November 2008 in HSB and the $55,529 in November 2007.

The Pedernales Electric Cooperative is once again offering scholarships to high school seniors in its service area. Obituaries

Celebration of life services for Edwin Curtis Finley, 82, of Horseshoe Bay and formerly of Lubbock will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15, at the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, with Dr. Ken Horn officiating. Ed was born Nov. 6, 1927 in Pecos to the late Edwin Odis and Lillian Finley.
