In spite of suffering a great loss last week, the 1st Cavalry Division of Ft. Hood appeared with enthusiastic patriotic spirit at the City of Granite Shoals parade and Veterans Day celebration on Saturday, November 7. Their presence and precision with their well trained horses lifted the hearts of the crowd.

The contractor who will be installing a new 12 inch water line along Hi Mesa and Hi Circle South has decided not to blast through the rock, and will instead use a saw to cut the path for the line.
The City of Horseshoe Bay has scheduled meetings on Nov. 16 at 9 a.m.

AUSTIN – At a specially called meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10, the Lower Colorado River Authority Board discussed revised staff recommendations to manage the ongoing Colorado River Basin Drought and listened to public comment about the potential economic impact of reduced water supplies.
On Nov. 10, the region’s water supply reservoirs were about 52 percent full.

The Texas Department of Transportation has approved building new twin structures to replace the existing US 281 bridge over Lake Marble Falls. The $30.1 million construction project is slated to begin in April 2011 and take 2½ years to complete.
“This is a huge project for our area,” said Howard Lyons, area engineer for TxDOT in Burnet County.

The Paulist Fathers have called Horseshoe Bay home since 1972, but it wasn’t until now that the organization officially participated in the ultimate area activity: golf.
More than 90 golfers took to the links at Ram Rock Golf Course Nov. 7 as Horseshoe Bay locals were joined by golfers from around the country.
“It was a time to gather together and play together in these beautiful surroundings,” said Father John F.

Jerry Gray had a hole in one on Nov 2, on the 8th hole of Apple Rock Golf Course, from 140 yards using an 8 iron witnessed by Ken Murphy, Doug Jackson and Mark Walsh.
The ball landed about three feet in front of the hole and bounced into the cup.

Referred to by many as the “singer’s singer” and labeled “the most awesome voice in gospel music” by Billboard Magazine, Cynthia Clawson will perform at The Church at Horseshoe Bay’s Concert Series at 2 p.m. on Nov.15 in the church sanctuary. This will be the last of the series for 2009.
Clawson has received a Grammy and five Dove awards for her work as a songwriter, vocal artist and musician.

Horseshoe Bay Resort is sponsoring its third annual Boat Parade of Lights on Nov. 27. Members and guests of HSB Resort, as well as residents of the surrounding area, are invited to get into the holiday spirit by decorating their boats and participating in the parade.
The Resort’s dining yacht, decked out in a holiday theme, will participate and feature a synchronized light and music show.

I know you continue to be excited over Kansas State’s ascent in the Big 12 North by Northwest. I joked about them several weeks ago, and now the joke is on me. Poor me—well, this old man says Bill Snyder is conference Coach of the Year, and I’ll send him any issues of AARP Magazine he may have missed.

I was stringing some festive lights around the back patio. Upon prying the plastic from around the lights — you know the drill, vice grips in one hand, bolt cutter in the other, I noticed a legal disclaimer at least a foot long wrapped around this string of lights. Good grief!

I’m devoting this to my water aerobics class which I have taken for about eleven years now. The time, place, and teacher have changed, but it is still a great way to start the day!

Four residents of Horseshoe Bay recently returned home from a two week tour of China, just days before the Chinese people celebrated the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Maurice and Gayla Peeples along with Terry and Marty Johnson were in the world’s most populous country as festive decorations adorned parks and public sites and as preparations were being made in every city to commemorate former Chairman Mao Tse-tung’s 1949 pronouncement in Tiananmen Square.

The annual Bayside Bazaar is scheduled for this next Saturday, November 14, at Quail Point. It is an event that has been staged for the last several years by the Helping Hands Craft Guild to benefit The Marble Falls Helping Center (MFHC). The membership of the Guild is relatively small, but they make a huge effort and their annual fundraiser always draws a crowd.
There are a lot of reasons for that.
