Two Horseshoe Bay residents announced their re-election plans for Llano County offices at the Oct. 20 meeting of the South Llano County Republican Women’s Club at Quail Point. Richard Owen, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace, said he will run for another four year term because he loves the job and the law.

A man accused of multiple burglaries of lake front properties in Llano and Burnet counties is now residing in the Llano County Jail. When Jeffrey Scott Graves, 39, was arrested on Oct. 23 in Kerrville on warrants from Llano County, he was in possession of a vehicle that was allegedly stolen in a Sunrise Beach burglary as well as other stolen property, according John Neff, Chief Deputy of the Llano County Sheriff’s Office. The draft audit report for the Llano County Hospital Authority “presents a greatly improved financial condition compared to last year,” according to LCHA Director Robert Shafer, Chair of the Audit Committee. At Thursday’s board meeting, Shafer said LCHA, which runs the Llano Memorial Healthcare System, is performing better than many hospitals in Texas of comparable size despite the soft economy, and in some cases, better than larger institutions.

Because the Texas Residential Construction Commission is no longer in operation, contractors who have been registered with the agency and who apply for building permits in the City of Horseshoe Bay will be required to be registered by the city beginning on November 2, 2009. All general contractors applying for building permits for residential or commercial buildings, including remodels, will be required to be registered before they will be issued a building permit.

The Legends Junior Tour announced it has reached a two-year agreement with Horseshoe Bay Resort to host the Texas State Junior Championship in 2010 and 2011. “We are very excited to host these events and look forward to the start of a very long relationship with the Legends Junior Tour,” said Glenn Lee, director of golf at Horseshoe Bay Resort. Daytrippin'

Take a short daytrip to Dan Pogue’s sculpture studio, just seven miles from Marble Falls, and tour the home base of one of the most talented and versatile artists in our area. Several of Pogue’s sculptures will be on display at the 3rd Annual Marble Falls Sculpture on Main show, which Dan and his wife Marti helped create with the help of their friend Russell Buster, owner of the Marble Theater.

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, As reported by Jodi Lehman in last week’s Beacon, the City Council at their October 19 workshop responded quickly to the October 8 “show of hands” by voting unanimously to abandon the Fairways street upgrade assessment plan. But Jodi’s report of the meeting made clear there are a number of issues the Council must deal with before proceeding with any upgrade program requiring owner assessment.

Table Talk

On October 17 Julie Ribera quietly opened her new restaurant in Cottonwood Shores. There may not have been a lot of fanfare at the time – she’s planning on a grand opening in a couple of weeks after she completes some more staff training and takes care of a few other finishing touches – but she already has some loyal clientele.
