A Town Hall Meeting concerning a street upgrade plan prepared by Horseshoe Bay Mayor Bob Lambert has been scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 8 at the Marriott Hotel. All HSB property owners are invited and encouraged to attend to hear a presentation on the details of the plan and to provide comments.

The Llano County Sheriff’s Office made a second methamphetamine arrest in Kingsland last week. Deputies discovered a disabled minivan near Antone and Airway Streets in Kingsland on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, containing what appeared to be glassware associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Llano and Burnet County Investigators impounded the van and obtained a search warrant.

The Silent Auction Committee Fay Ferguson, Diane Akers, Ellen Mitchell, and Caira Franz; Cynthia Hughes and Pat Doerfler is busy making contacts to get silent auction items for the 10th annual “Bayside Bazaar”. Mary Daniel, chair of the Helping Hands Craft Guild, has emphasized the increased needs of The Marble Falls Helping Center this year which is the recipient of the funds raised by the bazaar.

A party was held at Quail Point Saturday night to celebrate Polly Ostertag’s 80th birthday. Many friends as well as family members attended this special occasion. Polly entertained the group briefly by singing “Hand Me Down My Walking Cane.” She sure didn’t need the cane but the skit brought a round of laughter from her audience.

Cottonwood Shores Public Library hosted its first book fair on Saturday, September 19. Tina Sprankle and Laura Savage-Rains from Usborne Books were present to display and discuss books that were available to purchase immediately and to assist in completing order forms. There were many children’s books from all reading levels from which to choose.

Area residents may have noticed a new addition to the Thomas C. Ferguson Power Plant site: a 100-foot-tall construction crane.
No new construction is going on at Ferguson. LCRA crews are using the crane to install new equipment that will improve the air quality of the plant’s emissions. The crane will remain at the site for another week or two, then reappear for a few weeks in November to complete the installation.

Lourdes Langston, co-founder with husband Paul, of the International Group in Horseshoe Bay spoke to the Singles of the Hills on Wednesday evening, September 23.
Lourdes, an educator, met Paul, a petroleum engineer (specializing in offshore drilling), in Mexico City in 1947. They have been married for 59 years. Paul is from East Texas and Lourdes was born in Mexico City.

This is a generous community. We support a wide variety of non-profit organizations. Despite the continuing efforts that all of us devote to aiding our favorite charities in whatever way we can, I suspect many of us have been forced to make some difficult choices of late. When it comes to where we want to spend the money or time we can afford to devote to charitable causes, we have to take a serious look at our own priorities in this economy.

We are writing in regard to the proposed street upgrade program for the Fairways neighborhood.
We are adamantly opposed to this project for several reasons. In these tough economic times, we don’t think that any residents in HSB are engaging in frivolous spending habits. This project appears to be just that- frivolous spending.
