A very special part of the Horseshoe Bay Associates of the Seton Development Board’s annual fundraiser is the food served at the event. This year’s food committee co-chairs, Lynn Kettlehut and Kathy Stillwell, know what every good chef knows: preparation is the key to success. Consultants hired by the Pedernales Electric Cooperative unveiled a proposed new rate design plan at the PEC Board of Directors meeting in Marble Falls on Monday afternoon. David Hedrick, Vice President of C.H. Guernsey & Company said their proposal “balances conflicting concerns” and like any change in business philosophy, it will “create winners and losers.”

The regular meeting of the Horseshoe Bay City Council on Tuesday began with a presentation by the Pedernales Electric Cooperative to the City’s fire department recognizing their service to PEC’s customers in the Horseshoe Bay area. Fire Chief Jim Fiero accepted a plaque and a $1,000 grant on behalf of the department.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs delivered $291.1 million in March sales tax payments to Texas cities, down 0.7 percent compared to March 2008. The City of Horseshoe Bay received $30,344 for its March sales tax payment, down 11.5 percent from its payment of $34,310 in March 2008.
For the first quarter of 2009, statewide city sales tax allocations are 1.5 percent higher than the first three months of 2008.

Bill and Karen Wines hosted another wonderful concert performance in their home featuring Bob Anderson. He came to Horseshoe Bay in 2007 for his first concert at the Wines’ home. After receiving more requests to have him come again than any other performer, they asked him to return. A two night performance was originally planned but overwhelming response from the community led to a third night.

Close to 200 men from the Hill Country gathered together to break bread, have a few laughs, listen to a little guitar pickin’ and singin’ and then hear a journey of a cowboy from the Rio Grande River as he listened to his inner self, hearing a message he didn’t really want to hear.
Cowboys in the brush keep in touch with each other by hooting as they poke along through the Mesquite, easing their cattle into the pens at the far end of the pasture.

County Judge Wayne Brascom called a special emergency meeting of the Llano County Commissioners’ Court for 11 a.m. today to consider re-instating a county wide burn ban due to deteriorating conditions caused by increased winds and grasses drying out quickly. By calling an emergency meeting, the burn ban, if authorized by the commissioners, will go into effect immediately.
