Hico’s location 110 miles from Horseshoe Bay makes it a perfect stop in the road on your way to Dallas or regions beyond. This tiny town (pronounced HI-ko) encompasses only 1.5 square miles and has a population near 1400, but a look around will explain why it has managed to survive the recent universal financial slump.

Hazel Laverne Lacy, 94, of Horseshoe Bay, was called home to her heavenly Father on February 26, 2012. Born September 10, 1917 in Lexington, Oklahoma, Hazel was the daughter of Wiley & Pearl (Phillips) Boatright. Hazel graduated from Oklahoma City Business College. She and her husband operated a furniture store for many years.

Last Wednesday, the LCRA approved the new Water Management Plan for lakes Buchanan and Travis. The new plan, which has been in the works for the past 18 months, addresses concerns regarding water rights, the release of water to rice farmers down stream, and the steps of action the LCRA will take in the event of a severe drought. The 10-5 vote allowed the plan to pass; the next step will be getting approval from Texas Commission of Environmental Quality.

The Kingsland Slab RV Park was back on the agenda Monday, as Commissioners met on Feb. 27 for a regular meeting; Judge Wayne Brascom was absent for the first part of the meeting. Owner Wayne Correll came before council once again, following the tabling of the issue at the last meeting. At the last meeting, Correll was requesting variances for a proposed RV park at the Kingsland Slab.

Marble Falls resident Steven Todd has recently announced that he is entering the race to be the next District Attorney by seeking the Republican Party Nomination for the 33rd/424th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Currently, the Republican primary is scheduled for May 29, 2012. Todd has prosecuted Felony crimes as an Assistant District Attorney in all four counties included in the 33rd/424th district (Blanco, Burnet, Llano and San Saba), working in Oatman’s office from 2000 to 2007.
