Visitors can climb a ladder and go inside the Bluebonnet Belle, a 1944 C-47 WW II veteran, having served with the RCAF in England. Once inside the huge bird you can sit on a jump seat and view the static line paratroopers hooked up on before making their jumps. Rides are available on Belle for persons 18 yrs. and up. Nose Art was popular on planes in the 1940’s and Belle’s image of a Texas cowgirl is reminiscent of the popularity of Pin Up Girls of that era.
The Highland Lakes CAF Air Museum has something of interest for everyone. Children from elementary school age and up will enjoy the several hands on exhibits and the opportunity to climb into some old Warbirds that are kept in pristine condition by the Highland Lakes Squadron volunteers. Many of the planes on display are flown to air shows around the country by HLS members.
