Horseshoe Bay Center and Jamail’s On Schedule for Opening in April

Construction and interior work at Horseshoe Bay Center are proceeding as planned, meaning that Jamail’s grocery store in Horseshoe Bay is on schedule to open this spring. Applications for personnel who want to give exceptional customer service at the market are available on-line, with personal interviews scheduled for March.

“I believe we’ll open in April,” says Jim Jamail, but that’s as definite as the store’s operating partner will get, citing a variety of operational details that are still in the works. These include the hiring and, importantly, the training of personnel. “We want customers to feel like family,” says Jamail. “Given that goal, we want to employ people who truly enjoy serving others.”

“Our hallmark is customer service, so the people who serve our clientele must bring that work ethic to Jamail’s,” he says, and gets an agreeing nod from his wife Kathy, who will also be full-time at the store. In addition, their daughter Paige Jamail Barnes and her husband Micah are part of the executive operating staff at the store.

Dennis Libby, who brings 40 years of experience in the meat and grocery industry and has also worked with

Jamail in the past, will be another member of the management team.

Looking to Fill These Positions

As of March 1, the Jamails will be interviewing for meat, seafood, deli and bakery positions. There are also positions open for kitchen personnel (to include a chef) and fresh produce and grocery personnel. The family is also interested in hearing from high school and college students who want to work after school hours and on Saturdays.

Update: What’s Happening at Jamail’s Grocery Store

In addition to the hiring and training of personnel, the Jamails are overseeing the installation of the interior of the store. Coolers, wrapping around three sides of the interior perimeter of the 15,800 sq. ft. store, are installed. The kitchen, for preparing entrees and side dishes which will be offered the six days a week the store will be open, is currently being installed. Service display cases in the meat, seafood and prepared foods departments are also being installed at this time.

Some shoppers will especially like the Beer Cave, which will hold cases of cold beer, and the Wine Cellar, a room where the store’s higher-end wines will be stocked. The areas are in place, waiting for the electrical and refrigeration systems to be completed.

“In addition, we’ll be offering many other niceties and specialties at the new store,” says Jamail, “and we’ll announce them over the coming weeks.”

“There are so many details that go into opening a grocery store, especially one like ours that wants to make the customer experience something remarkable,” says Jamail “We’ve got a lot of experience in making this happen, but it takes time and careful attention to those details. We want to make sure we have everything perfect when we open for business.”

Update: What’s Happening at Horseshoe Bay Center

Mike Walsh, general partner in the Horseshoe Bay Center at 9710 Hwy. 2147, east of the Horseshoe Bay post office, is also ready to move into new sales offices for Trails of Horseshoe Bay, another of his real estate projects in the Highland Lakes. In addition, the third and final tenant space in the building is under contract discussion.

Another office building to the south of the current 20,000 sq. ft. building that houses Jamail’s and the Trails Sales office also is planned. This Phase 2 of construction will consist of an additional 20,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space. Typical individual bays of 1,260 sq. ft. each, or multiples of that amount, are available for lease.

Construction of Phase 2 will begin when there is sufficient interest for the tenant spaces, according to Walsh. Potential tenants should contact Robyn Walsh, leasing agent, for information at 512-470-5517 or at

Construction of Phase 3, consisting of 350 climate-controlled storage units, will be sometime after the opening of Jamail’s.

Horseshoe Bay Center and Jamail’s are being built by Grubbs Construction in Horseshoe Bay, with Clifford Grubbs, owner, as the project’s general contractor; Russell Garner is project manager. Architect for the center is Ray Gill of R. Gill Architects, Horseshoe Bay.
