A 19-year-old McGregor man was arrested on February 11, 2012 on one count of Sexual Assault of a Child. John Lawrence Thompson was charged with the 2nd degree felony after it was alleged that he had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old minor while visiting a residence in Horseshoe Bay on January 15 of this year. At the February 13 meeting of the Llano County Commissioners, Wayne Correll requested three variances needed to move forward with the construction of an RV Park on slab road in Kingsland. The vairances included allowing three RV spaces to be built seven feet into the flood plain, to allow a sewer transfer tank with sewage pump in the 100 Year Floodplain, and to allow 24 foot wide unpaved streets within the development as opposed to the regulation 28"

This week, LCRA announced that they would begin reporting residents who pump water from the Highland Lakes without a contract to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, which can levy fines for the illegal pumping. “Everyone needs to play by the same rules when it comes to the precious, shared and limited resource of water from the Highland Lakes,” LCRA General Manager Becky Motal said.

The Hill Country 100 Club paid honors to area Law Enforcement, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service Personnel of Blanco, Burnet, Llano and Lampasas Counties at their annual membership and awards banquet Thursday January 19, 2012 at the Lakeside Pavilion in Marble Falls. Michele Shackelford hosted a viewing of Patrizia Da Milano’s beautiful works of art on February 9. Patrizia lives in Amarillo and is a close friend of Michele’s sister. On a cold, cold afternoon in Horseshoe Bay on Sunday Feb. 12th, a large group of attendees at the International Club enjoyed a presentation by Francisca and Roy Nichols on their life in Portugal. As always the delicious casseroles, salads, and desserts were prepared to share. The gatherings each month provide an opportunity for residence of Horseshoe Bay to meet with their friends, hear a talk on travels and life in foreign countries, and share their specialty of the day.

The HSB Ladies 9 Hole Golf Group had a Valentine cocktail party at On the Rocks Restaurant, Thursday, February 9th after regular play at Slick Rock. Valentines were handed to each player, who then found their match for a famous couple. These two ladies’ scores were then combined, which resulted in a tie for 1st place.

Several ladies, who are former HSB residents, were invited to a lovely Valentine lunch on February 14 at the Church at Horseshoe Bay. Karen Wines came up with the idea and HSB’s benevolent spirit followed through as other women volunteered to transport guests to and from the luncheon, decorate and cook the delicious meal.

I wrote a short novel called The Salesman from La Grange. My main character was Dan Mikeska. Dan owned 12 acres on Monument Hill overlooking La Grange. He got a job as an outside salesman for a small company in Houston, and fell in love with the boss’ daughter. No legitimate publishing house would read it so I published it myself.
