On January 24, 2012, Kelley Russell Mauldin, 41, was arrested on three counts of forgery. Forgery is a third degree felony, however, Mauldin’s charges were enhanced one degree because the alleged victim is 65 or older, in accordance with Texas Penal Code Sec. 32.21.e-1. Burnet County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Peggy Simon issued the warrants for Mauldin, following an investigation by the Horseshoe Bay Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.

Award-winning fine art humorist Jeff Leedy will be painting on site at Quail Point, in the poker room, for the next two months. POA President Steve Jordan identified Leedy, having become familiar with his unique style, as the right person to paint a mural for the facility’s newly remodeled card room.

The mailing of renewal voter registration certificates has been delayed throughout the State of Texas due to ongoing litigation regarding state redistricting plans. The renewal certificates, printed on yellow paper, will be mailed to all registered voters once the state redistricting plans are finalized by the Federal Courts. Voters can expect to receive their new certificate before the 2012 Primary Elections.

Jean Johnson (R) had a memorable birthday when friends Marilyn Surmrall (L) and Lois Strasburg treated her to dinner at a restaurant in Bee Cave where Willie Nelson happened to be dining. On Tuesday, golfing buddies and friends celebrated with Lois Sparks (R) on her 90th birthday. She spent the morning golfing and on the 18th hole of Slick she outdrove all in her group landing at the top of the hill. Yea! Life is good!

I will now admit publicly that I love Dr. Oz. I truly believe the man is saving the lives of thousands of people with his sage advice. Although I rarely see his program at airtime, I record and watch in the evenings while my beloved Sky King is watching something really loud and obnoxious downstairs. Nothing encourages a person to excel or persist in an activity more than a sincere compliment. When the teacher writes a glowing note on your child’s term paper, you beam with pride, knowing that your young scholar has received a reward for doing her best work in the classroom. A performance review, loaded with commendations, is good tonic for any worker that is busting himself at the office.

The opening of Luciana McKeown’s catering and cooking business in January, 2007, was delayed when an ice storm hit the area and closed down everything in town. She successfully weathered that challenge and opened later that week. She has been meeting challenges head-on ever since. On January 19 of this year, she hosted a five-year anniversary celebration at her business on Commerce Street in Marble Falls.
