Court order extends filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in elections for next year, from the original deadline of December 15, to December 19, and now, finally, February 1, 2012. The extension also means that the primary will not be held on March 6, but will instead be held April 3. The changes in filing and election dates stems from a lawsuit brought against the State of Texas by minority groups who disagree with redistricting maps.

As the result of a joint investigation by the Horseshoe Bay Police Department and Texas State Game Wardens, charges have been filed against a 16 year-old Burnet County youth for violations of Horseshoe Bay city ordinances against the discharge of weapons within the City and hunting in a prohibited area.

Mrs. Santa Claus greeted Highland Lakes Service League members at their recent December meeting, then whispered a request to President Kay Herring: “Can I become a member of the Service League?” An overwhelming vote of “Yes!” was heard from the 55 members and guests attending the festive luncheon meeting at the beautifully decorated Hidden Falls Restaurant in Meadowlakes.

MARBLE FALLS—The guests are The Lone Ranger and Little Richard; cowboys at rest, and Jackie Robinson and Ty Cobb very much not at rest; the Alamo and Mick Jagger. Eclectic Impressions could have been the title of this showing of the art work of Gregory Truett Smith of Austin. His dad, Gordon, is a resident of Marble Falls and a retired pastor. “I’ve been painting all my life,” Smith said as he watched his creations marry the walls of Elements on Main Street.

Wrapping up the golf season was especially rewarding for local resident Frank Puckett. Not just because he won a trophy, but because of the circumstances. On Saturday, December 3rd, former Marine captain Roy Nichols and wife Francisca hosted this year’s third annual Christmas party at their home in Horseshoe Bay for fellow members of In Country Vietnam Motorcycle Club. The veterans, from chapters throughout the State of Texas, all served at least one tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam and were awarded the Vietnam Service Medal.

Buddy and Barbara Schrader held their 16th annual Christmas Party on December 9 at their home in HSB. Everyone enjoyed the beauty of the holiday decorations the couple has collected over many years. Not to be left out, Lulu, the family dog was also invited.
