Hico’s location 110 miles from Horseshoe Bay makes it a perfect stop in the road on your way to Dallas or regions beyond. Several ladies, who are former HSB residents, were invited to a lovely Valentine lunch on February 14 at the Church at Horseshoe Bay. Karen Wines came up with the idea and HSB’s benevolent spirit followed through as other women volunteered to transport guests to and from the luncheon, decorate and cook the delicious meal.

A large crowd turned out Saturday evening, January 21, to raise funds for an operation for Kristi Smith, daughter of HSB Police Captain Richard Baum and his wife Lezlie. Kristi, age 36, has a rare liver disease and needs a transplant. She is a single mother and was between jobs as an RN when the disease was discovered.

The Fredericksburg Music Club is pleased to present Gli Unici – the Tenors in concert on January 15, 2012 at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church at 3:00. Admission to the concert is by free will offering and seating is on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 2:30.
The three tenors are Donald Braswell, Timothy Birt and William Chapman.

MARBLE FALLS—The guests are The Lone Ranger and Little Richard; cowboys at rest, and Jackie Robinson and Ty Cobb very much not at rest; the Alamo and Mick Jagger. Eclectic Impressions could have been the title of this showing of the art work of Gregory Truett Smith of Austin. His dad, Gordon, is a resident of Marble Falls and a retired pastor.
“I’ve been painting all my life,” Smith said as he watched his creations marry the walls of Elements on Main Street.

The Fairways section of Horseshoe Bay is one of the older, more established areas in our city. I enjoy driving down its streets because it reminds me of the
Dallas neighborhood I grew up in, with its mature trees, few vacant lots and obvious pride in well kept lawns and gardens.

The HSB WGA celebrated a fabulous 2011 season with their 2011 Year-End Awards & Christmas Luncheon on December 7th at the Yacht Club. WGA Vice President, Deanie Thrash, outdid herself in organizing a wonderful luncheon with both a delicious menu, as only our special culinary Resort team can do, but also throwing in some surprises throughout the luncheon to make this year special.

The Bluebonnet Chorale was formed in the fall of 1999 when a group of 16 women from Horseshoe Bay met at The Church at Horseshoe Bay to form a singing group. Long-time director Wenona Burks likes to tell the story that they started out just singing simple rounds. With the help of accompanist Helen Carpenter they soon progressed to three-part and then four-part music.

The HSB Resort’s Annual Member Holiday Party on December 5 was once again a fabulous event. Over 700 guests enjoyed various buffet tables throughout the Yacht Club, which included prime rib, seafood, pasta and much, much more, complemented by an open bar and dancing to the Elliot Fikes Band.
